Women’s Health Physiotherapy

Women's bodies go through significant changes at different stages of life—from pregnancy and childbirth to menopause and beyond. While many women believe symptoms such as urinary leakage, pelvic pain, or abdominal weakness are simply something they have to live with, these conditions are common but not considered a normal part of ageing or motherhood. Physiotherapy can play an important role in helping you recover, regain confidence, and improve your quality of life.

At Sunny Corner Physio, our Women's Health Physiotherapy services can assist with a wide range of conditions, including pregnancy-related pain, postnatal recovery, pelvic girdle pain, urinary incontinence, pelvic floor dysfunction, pelvic pain, diastasis recti (abdominal muscle separation), and returning safely to exercise after childbirth.

Treatment may include pelvic floor muscle assessment and training (where appropriate), personalised exercise programs, strength and stability training, education, breathing and movement retraining, manual therapy, and advice on bladder and bowel health, posture, lifting, and returning to work, exercise, and everyday activities.

Whether you're preparing for birth, recovering after pregnancy, managing pelvic floor concerns, or simply wanting to move with greater confidence, our goal is to help you feel stronger, more comfortable, and supported through every stage of life.

Pregnancy Physiotherapy

Pregnancy brings significant physical and hormonal changes that place increased demands on the muscles, joints, and ligaments throughout the body. Our pregnancy physiotherapy services are designed to help you stay active, manage discomfort, and maintain confidence throughout every stage of your pregnancy while supporting your changing body.

Following a comprehensive assessment, we evaluate your posture, movement patterns, strength, flexibility, core stability, pelvic floor function, and any pregnancy-related musculoskeletal concerns. We commonly treat conditions including pelvic girdle pain, lower back pain, hip pain, neck pain, rib pain, sciatica, wrist pain (De Quervain's Tenosynovitis), postural discomfort, and pregnancy-related muscle or joint pain.

Treatment is tailored to your individual needs and may include hands-on physiotherapy, pregnancy-safe exercises, core and pelvic floor training, mobility and stretching programs, posture correction, taping techniques, and education on lifting, sleeping positions, and daily activities. Our goal is to help you remain comfortable, active, and well-prepared for childbirth while reducing pain and improving overall function throughout your pregnancy.

Postnatal Rehabilitation

Recovery after childbirth is different for every woman, and returning to normal activities safely requires more than simply allowing time for healing. Our postnatal rehabilitation programs are designed to help restore strength, movement, confidence, and function following both vaginal and caesarean deliveries.

Your physiotherapist will assess abdominal muscle separation (diastasis recti), core strength, pelvic floor function, posture, flexibility, movement patterns, and any ongoing pain or physical limitations. We also address common postnatal concerns such as back and neck pain, pelvic girdle pain, pelvic floor weakness, urinary incontinence, scar discomfort following caesarean section, lifting and carrying difficulties, and returning safely to exercise.

Treatment may include pelvic floor rehabilitation, deep core strengthening, functional exercise, scar management, manual therapy, posture education, lifting techniques, return-to-running preparation, and progressive return-to-exercise programs. Our goal is to help you recover safely, rebuild confidence, and return to caring for your baby, work, exercise, and the activities you enjoy.

Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation

The pelvic floor is a group of muscles that supports the bladder, bowel, uterus, and other pelvic organs while contributing to continence, core stability, and sexual function. Weakness, overactivity, injury, pregnancy, childbirth, ageing, surgery, or chronic straining can affect pelvic floor function and significantly impact quality of life.

Our physiotherapists provide comprehensive assessment and evidence-based rehabilitation for a range of pelvic floor conditions, including urinary incontinence, urgency, pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic pain, bowel dysfunction, pelvic floor weakness, pelvic floor overactivity, and recovery following pregnancy or pelvic surgery.

Treatment is individualised and may include pelvic floor muscle training, relaxation techniques for overactive pelvic floor muscles, breathing retraining, deep core rehabilitation, bladder and bowel retraining, lifestyle and behavioural advice, manual therapy where appropriate, and progressive functional exercises. We also provide education on long-term pelvic health, safe return to exercise, and strategies to reduce symptom recurrence.

Our goal is to help you restore pelvic floor function, improve confidence and comfort, reduce symptoms, and support your long-term health and wellbeing at every stage of life.
