Sports Physiotherapy

Whether you're an elite athlete, weekend warrior, or simply enjoy staying active, injuries can be frustrating and keep you from doing what you love. Our goal is not only to help you recover from your injury but also to identify why it occurred, reduce the risk of it happening again, and help you perform at your best.

At Sunny Corner Physio, we provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for a wide range of sporting injuries, including muscle strains, ligament sprains, tendon injuries, joint pain, overuse injuries, fractures, and post-surgical rehabilitation. We take the time to understand your sport, training demands, and performance goals so your treatment and rehabilitation are tailored specifically to you.

Rather than simply treating your symptoms, we work to identify the underlying factors that contributed to your injury. These may include training load, recovery habits, movement patterns, muscle imbalances, exercise technique, footwear, equipment, or sport-specific biomechanics. By addressing the root cause—not just the pain—we help reduce the risk of future injuries and improve your long-term performance.

Whether your goal is to return to competition, improve your performance, or simply continue enjoying an active lifestyle, we'll support you every step of the way with evidence-based care designed to help you move better, perform better, and stay injury-free for longer.

Sports Injury Rehabilitation & Return to Sport

Recovering from a sports injury involves more than waiting for pain to settle—it requires structured rehabilitation to restore strength, mobility, confidence, and sport-specific performance. Whether you're recovering from a muscle strain, ligament sprain, tendon injury, fracture, dislocation, or surgery, our programs are tailored to your injury, stage of healing, sporting demands, and individual goals.

Your rehabilitation progresses through each stage of healing, from early pain management and protection to restoring mobility, rebuilding strength, and developing coordination, agility, speed, power, and sport-specific skills.

Treatment may include progressive strengthening, mobility exercises, balance training, neuromuscular control, agility drills, plyometrics, running retraining, and sport-specific exercises. We monitor your progress through functional testing and objective outcome measures to help ensure you're physically prepared to return safely to training and competition.

Our goal is not simply to get you back on the field quickly, but to help you return stronger, move more efficiently, reduce your risk of re-injury, and perform with confidence.

Sports Taping & Bracing

Sports taping and bracing can provide additional support during rehabilitation, training, and competition while helping you stay active. Depending on your injury, stage of recovery, and sporting demands, we provide rigid sports taping, kinesiology taping, cohesive tape, and advice on appropriate braces or supports.

Rigid sports tape helps limit excessive joint movement and provide mechanical stability following injuries such as ankle sprains, wrist injuries, finger injuries, and shoulder instability. It can be applied before training or competition to protect healing tissues and reduce the risk of further injury.

Kinesiology tape is a flexible, elastic tape that moves naturally with your body. It may help provide sensory feedback, support muscles and joints, assist with swelling management, and improve movement awareness without significantly restricting mobility.

Self-adhesive cohesive tape sticks to itself rather than the skin, making it useful for light compression, supporting fingers and wrists, securing dressings, and reinforcing other taping techniques.

Functional braces or supports might be recommended for additional stability and protection during rehabilitation and return to sport.

We also educate you on appropriate taping methods, safe application, and when support can be gradually reduced as your strength, stability, and confidence improve. Our goal is to integrate taping and bracing into a comprehensive rehabilitation program, rather than relying on external support as a substitute for restoring strength and function.

Performance Enhancement & Injury Prevention

Preventing injuries is just as important as treating them. Our performance enhancement and injury prevention programs help athletes and active individuals improve movement, optimise physical performance, and reduce injury risk. Whether you're preparing for a new season, returning from injury, or aiming to improve your performance, we tailor our approach to your sport and individual goals.

Through a comprehensive assessment, we identify factors that may limit performance or increase injury risk, including muscle weakness, restricted mobility, movement patterns, biomechanics, balance, coordination, running mechanics, and training load. We also assess strength, power, agility, endurance, and sport-specific movement to identify areas for improvement.

Based on your assessment, we develop a personalised program incorporating strength and conditioning, mobility training, balance exercises, plyometrics, agility drills, speed development, and sport-specific training. We also provide guidance on training progression, recovery, warm-up routines, and load management to help you train smarter and perform consistently.

Regular reassessments allow us to track progress and adjust your program as your performance improves. Our goal is to help you move more efficiently, maximise your athletic potential, reduce injury risk, and perform with confidence throughout the season.
